Episode 1 aired recently, I was going to read the manga of this because apparently it's excellent and I did read the first chapter but I got the sneaking suspicion it would get an anime adaptation...and it has! And it's good! As of episode 1 at least.
The basic premise is that it's set in an orphanage with a bunch of children of various ages, all normal stuff. They also have numbers tattooed on them...still normal.
And they also get put through rigorous testing to make them incredibly smart and to maximise their mental and physical abilities...
But for what purpose?
All in all I won't say much because the first episode offers you a pretty hefty bit of meat to get you interested.
One of the main things that drew me to this series was talk of it, apparently the characters are all really smart.
Like...
Actually intelligent and they make intelligent decisions, strategize etc etc, there are so many shows where everyone is a complete dumbass so that immediately interested me.
The artwork in the manga is incredible too, the anime so far is good too, as expected it doesn't have nearly as much detail but it's still great and the music and how they set scenes is brilliant, even though I knew what was coming in that first episode I got a great "God that's creepy" vibe from how they do it.
Can't wait to see how the series develops.
Intelligent characters that don't make outrageously blockheaded decisions, my gosh yes.

I watched the first episode and I'm interested. Seems like a cool concept and the art can be intimidating, but also... the characters look like this:

You say that like it's a bad thing. Well defined noses are so 1980's.
